Mandarin Training Center at NTNU
The National Taiwan Normal University was established in 1922 as Taihoku College during Japanese Colonial Rule. Now, NTNU has become the leading institution in Taiwan for studies in many fields within humanities including education and linguistics. The Mandarin Training Center of NTNU was established in 1956 as a center for learning Chinese as a second language. Since its establishment, it has been host to more than 50,000 students who would go on to become ambassadors (Jon Huntsman Jr.), globally-recognized Sinologists (Pierre Ryckmans) and even prime ministers (Kevin Rudd, Ryutaro Hashimoto).

All fellows at VELD will arrive together in June where they'll begin their journey with educational consulting work, integrating into the Taiwanese landscape, and setting themselves up socially and with a leadership curriculum. In the spring, fellows will split into two different tracks for another six months: one focused on continued mandarin learning and one focused on work experience at various Start-Ups. After Term 2 ends, Fellows will finish off their fellowship as Senior Fellows, completing a mixture of leadership, education, additional fellowship activities.
