Taiwan is a crucial hub of the tech economy and a part of the fast growing Greater South East Asia region. Through the VELD Fellowship, you will be able to explore a variety of industries at some of the most exciting companies in Taipei, in fields ranging from the cutting edge in FinTech and Biomedical Engineering to more traditional areas such as supply chain and investment. 

Language and Culture

In Taiwan, we offer Traditional Chinese lessons at the highly regarded Mandarin Training Center at the National Taiwan Normal University. The immersive environment includes plenty of practical training through social and professional situations to create a holistic and practical language learning experience. Together with the other fellows, you may also explore the history through the greatest collect of Chinese art at the National Palace Museum or travel the island to enjoy the beautiful beaches and pristine mountains

Leadership

As a VELD fellow, you will also be expected to grow your leadership ability. In the first stage, you will receive training to teach and guide Taiwanese high school students. Then, with our partnership with the Global Leadership Organization, you'll be able to continue to develop as a leader before becoming senior Fellows and taking on greater responsibilities within the fellowship.

Extracurricular Activities

Social Events

​Networking, karaoke, bars, hikes, and more. Taiwan has an incredible range of fun experiences. Together with other fellows as well as locals, you'll be able to fully dive into the welcoming Taiwanese social scene. In addition we provide entry to Soocial Lab events (@soocial.lab) to meet bilingual professionals.
Cultural Experiences

Exemplified by the focus on learning Traditional Mandarin characters, Taiwan is host to amazing cultural experiences. From temples to night markets, lanterns to festivals, during your 18 months in Taiwan you'll be able to truly experience the full diversity contained within Taiwan's culture. You may even be able to visit a secluded Buddhist high school deep in the mountains of Nantou.
Conferences

At a variety of conferences and networking events, you'll be able to meet other ambitious professionals who can become lifelong friends. Yearly events that we attend include the GLO Leadership Summit and the Ivy League Ball.
